E-Museum Connects Students to Nobel History

The Nobel Foundation Web site, founded in 1995, has been upgraded into an e-museum of science and culture, bringing the accomplishments of Nobel laureates to students around the world. New, interactive contents of the site now include digital archives covering 100 years of scientific and cultural development; games and animation; virtual laboratories; lectures and demonstrations; and portraits using text, image, video and audio.

The site allows visitors to virtually experience the theories and discoveries of laureates. With the assistance of "Virtual Eva," the lab technician in the virtual laboratory, visitors can practice experimental techniques such as protein sequencing. Visitors can also test their understanding of the symbolism and messaging in Laureate William Golding's book Lord of the Flies by clicking on a virtual re-creation of the island on which Ralph, Piggy and the other boys were stranded. In addition, tools for exploring atoms, nuclei, elementary particles, quantum phenomena and relativity have been re-created in the physics section.
