Sony StorStation AIT Library

Sony Electronics has introduced the Sony StorStation AIT library (model LIB-162), which can help automate the backup procedures in educational environments. It is also the smallest and densest tape library on the market, making it easy to move around campus and conserve storage space. The LIB-162 houses one expandable AIT-2 drive and 16 cartridge slots in a unique carousel design that provides storage capacity of up to 2.08 TB and data transfer rates of up to 112 GB per hour. These features allow for up to two weeks of hands-free backup of transcripts, student and staff records, and e-mail. The LIB-162 occupies two-rack units in a rack-mountable configuration for easy installation, achieving maximum rack space density for data centers and space-restricted environments. In addition, it incorporates a standard bar-code reader for virtually instant media verification and inventory, as well as a Web-based remote monitoring system for simplified management.
