Florida County Adopts Imagine It! K-5 Reading Curriculum

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Leon County Schools in Florida has recently announced the adoption of SRA/McGraw-Hill's Imagine It! reading program for grades K-5. The deployment is aimed at helping the district meet state and federal assessment standards.

The Imagine It! program is aligned to individual state standards and is intended to help improve reading comprehension, writing, and "higher-order thinking." Features of the program include built-in differentiated instruction and embedded English language learner instruction. Additionally, Imagine It! contains curriculum links to both science and social studies.

"We were looking for a reading program that fully met Florida standards, offered strong support materials and training for our teachers, and engaged students especially through its digital offerings," said Jo Marie Olk, reading coordinator of Leon County Schools, in a prepared statement. "We needed a program that would continue to help us close the achievement gap for our students so that they would be productive citizens in the future."

Prior to implementing Imagine It! in fall 2008, Leon County Schools piloted an earlier version of the program known as Open Court Reading.
