Florida District Implements Learning Management System District-wide

The District School Board of Collier County in Florida is adopting a learning management system in an effort to move educational materials (such as lessons and class notes) away from paper and into electronic formats.

For the move, the district has selected Angel LMS, a learning management system designed for colleges, universities, and K-12 systems. The rollout actually began back in 2007, as the district made accounts available to students and teachers in new schools. About a year and a half later, it's been deployed district-wide.

“Students learn differently today. They are more engaged when content is on the computer. Angel provides the immediate access to information that engages students in learning,” said Randi Zwicker, director of the CCPS Instructional Technology Department, in a statement released this week.

“Learning can be more meaningful when we learn collectively,” said Amy Hance, instructional technology specialist. “The ability to share information and ideas in Angel can help others learn more or provide a different perspective.”

The Collier County district serves about 40,000 students in 32 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and nine high schools, as well as eight alternative schools and programs and three adult/workforce education centers.
