Camden County District Overhauls Computer Security

Camden County School District in Georgia has switched to a new set of security programs for its computers to protect against malware such as viruses, spyware, and spam. The district has begun running Trend Micro software on desktops, laptops, and servers for 9,800 students and 1,500 employees on 13 campuses. In a statement the district said its previous vendor's security application--which it didn't name--was unable to keep up with the volume of spam and spyware that were bogging down the network.

Camden County SD now deploys Trend Micro's Enterprise Security for Endpoints, including OfficeScan Client/Server for endpoint protection; ScanMail for Exchange for e-mail server security; and InterScan Messaging Security Virtual Appliance for e-mail gateway filtering.

"Keeping up to date with security is always a challenge," said Jeff Kelly, district director of information systems. "I'm constantly reviewing industry sources of information, and we see that Trend Micro is doing a good job at keeping up with the threats. They also coexist very well with all of our legacy education software and help us protect all of our computers including the older hardware. This is important since we have to keep hardware longer with today's budget restrictions."
