WeAreTeachers Partners To Offer School Library Microgrants

Online professional social network WeAreTeachers has partnered with ed tech solutions provider Follett Software Co. to ask the question, "What would $200 help you do with your school's library?" Open to new submissions through Oct. 11, the contest will award the said $200 school library grant and a choice of a Flip video camcorder or an Apple iPod nano to each of the 10 ideas that collect the most votes at the WeAreTeachers Web site through October 26. The top vote getter will also win an Apple iPad.

"As libraries develop into 21st-century skills hubs, it's vital that we help teachers and librarians find new ways to utilize them," said Sandy Fivecoat, CEO and founder of WeAreTeachers.

The question from Follett Software is one of five being posed to network members by WAT partners interested in generating innovative ideas across the education spectrum. Other current questions include:

  • "What is your idea to connect girls to learning experiences that encourage their social, creative, and emotional growth?" (Kiki Magazine)
  • "How do you make sure your students get enough reading practice, in class and at home?" (Learning A-Z)
  • "How do you use creativity and crafts to spark your early learners?" (Makit Products)
  • "How do you engage your students with technology in ways that still meets your instructional goals?" (Learning.com)

Each partner is currently soliciting responses on the WAT Web site and will award top vote-getting respondents each $200 and their choice of Flip camera or iPod Nano.
