My Big Campus Social LMS Adding Parent Portal

Lightspeed Systems is adding a Parent Portal component to its LMS, My Big Campus, that will allow parents, students, and teachers to communicate and share information online.

My Big Campus is a social learning platform that can be accessed online from almost any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection. School districts can securely import parent information from student information systems.

Students can access and upload their assignments, and participate in monitored online discussions launched by teachers. They can also flag posts they deem inappropriate. Teachers can create assignments marked with due dates, publish blogs, share YouTube videos and Web sites, store assignments and other files online, develop a calendar to be shared with students, create automatically graded online quizzes, and export grades.

"We wanted to provide schools with a complete classroom learning and management tool to truly transform learning," said Lightspeed Systems CEO Joel Heinrichs. "We know that parents are a key part of that transformation."

Features of the Parent Portal include:

  • Individual log-in credentials for each parent;
  • An activity feed, which includes upcoming events, wall posts by students, and private-group announcements;
  • A tool for parents to send students and staff direct messages;
  • Access to view students' classwork and assignments; and
  • Calendars and school resources.

Parent Portal is expected to be released this month. For more information, visit mybigcampus.com.
