Consortium for School Networking Launches Chapter in New York State

The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a professional association for school district technology leaders, has added a chapter in New York State. The consortium has 15 other state chapters across the United States.

The chapter, which is headed up by the New York State Association for Computers and Technology in Education (NYSCATE), will focus on increasing the use of technology in the classroom and the professional development of district technology leadership in that process. NYSCATE is a nonprofit, professional organization in New York whose members include teachers, administrators, school board members, and parents who use technology. It is an affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and helps schools to secure funding for educational technology through partnering with a variety of agencies and private companies.

"From the Finger Lakes to the Adirondacks to the 'Big Apple' region, New York adds a far-reaching voice and consortia of proven district leadership to our state-level membership," said Keith Krueger, CEO of CoSN. "Combining our advocacy efforts with the vision set forth by the New York Chief Technology Officer Council, we will work closely with New York school system leaders to harness technology to make it an everyday part of the teaching and learning experience. We look forward to extending our reach into the 'Empire State.'"

The responsibilities of the New York chapter include:

  • Encouraging more professional development for K-12 educational technology leaders;
  • Offering professional development courses and other networking opportunities for members;
  • Providing educational technology-related research and case studies as examples to school districts in the state; and
  • Creation of teams to coordinate educational technology leadership at the boards of cooperative education services (BOCES), city, and district levels.

Other CoSN chapters are located in Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.
