Desire2Learn Use in K-12 Ramps Up as Platform for Blended Learning and Staff Training

Districts building up their blended and online programs are ramping up their use of Desire2Learn products to provide learning environments for students, educators and staff. The company recently announced that five K-12 customers have expanded their use of its learning management system (LMS) with the adoption of additional modules or new practices.

The newest is the West Virginia Department of Education, which is using the LMS across the state as a way to integrate the courses delivered through the West Virginia Virtual School with its districts' more traditional offerings.

In Washington Bellevue School District is replacing legacy GlobalScholar software with Desire2Learn as its learning platform and gradebook for the 2014-2015 school year.

Oxnard Union High School District in California has added the LMS as part of its preparation for Common Core State Standard-aligned curriculum and the use of more digital learning resources. Desire2Learn is being used to deliver online professional development.

The educational arm of WHRO, a Virginia public broadcasting station, has coordinated the group purchase of Desire2Learn for a regional consortium of 17 public school divisions in the eastern part of the state. There, the LMS is used for numerous purposes, including tracking and reporting of training programs, to deliver virtual and blended classrooms and support online events.

The Upper Canada District School Board has been using Desire2Learn's platform to provide blended learning opportunities to its teachers and students. Now the district's Service Excellence department will use the LMS to deliver training to the district staff as well.
