Texas Instruments and NCTM Team Up to Create Common Core Math Activities

TITexas Instruments (TI) has announced a collaboration with The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). TI and NCTM have joined forces to develop practical ideas and classroom activities to help teachers respond to the changing educational landscape and implement effective teaching strategies. The new activities will be unveiled at the 2014 NCTM Regional Conference, which takes place today through Friday in Indianapolis.

The new classroom lessons for middle grades through high school use TI-Nspire technology to show educators how they can implement the eight essential teaching principles outlined in NCTM's new publication, Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All, which supports implementation of the Common Core State Standards for math.

TI and NCTM will also mark the collaboration by hosting a live Twitter chat to explore teaching practices that support standards-based learning. The chat will take place on Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. EST. Participants will include President of TI Education Technology Peter Balyta, NCTM Past President Gail Burrill and current NCTM board member Jon Wray, as well as math educators Jill Gough and Jennifer Wilson. Participants can join @NCTM and @TICalculators by using the #NCTMP2A.
