Sound Devices Adds Timecode Reading, Non-Native File Playback to Rackmount Video Recorders

Video Devices PIX 270i 

At the InfoComm 2016 conference taking place this week in Las Vegas, Sound Devices unveiled updates to its Video Devices PIX 270i and PIX 250i video recorders and Sound Devices 970 audio recorder.

With a new firmware release (version 2.3), the PIX 270i now supports grouping “multiple video decks together for frame-accurate playback of non-native files, including those created in Adobe Premiere, [Apple] Final Cut Pro, and Avid” non-linear editors,” according to the company. The update also allows the 270i and 250i to recognize timecode in those files. The new features also apply to the 260i (a discontinued model in the PIX line).

In addition, the firmware update for the video recorders and the Sound Devices 970 audio recorder adds support for copying “recorded files and reel folders from one drive to another without the need for a computer,” the company reported. “Drive-to-drive copying may be initiated through the device or remotely via the PIXNET web interface.”

Sound Devices is exhibiting at InfoComm in booth C6443. The firmware updates are available as a free download from the company’s site.
