Charter School Network Unveils First Health Professions School

A charter school network in Texas recently announced plans to open the first health professions school for pre-K–12 students in the country. The IDEA Public Schools charter network is building the school in an effort to address the need for Texas primary care professionals, and to equip students with science and data skills needed in health professions.

The new school will join IDEA Austin, a group of six IDEA Public Schools serving the Austin area. The school curriculum is expected to include science, technology, math and engineering classes, as well as electives in health science principles, public health, patient care and laboratory practicum, anatomy and physiology.

The school will begin construction in 2017. It will be free to attend, but space is limited and students must apply for admission.
