Avantis Education Launches New Headsets for ClassVR Solution

Avantis Education recently introduced two new headsets for its flagship educational VR/AR solution, ClassVR. According to a news release, the Xcelerate and Xplorer headsets expand the company's offerings into higher education while continuing to meet the evolving needs of K–12 users.

Xcelerate is the first headset designed specifically for higher education and high environments, the news release reports. It offers head and controller tracking with six degrees of freedom, as well as a 90-degree flip visor to let students transition between the VR world and real-world collaborating. It also has a four-camera spatial tracking system for precision of movement in the digital space, as well as a boundary safety to help delineate classroom space.

"Everything about Xcelerate was designed with education in mind — like all of our ClassVR solutions," said Avantis Education Chief Marketing Officer Gillian Rhodes, in a statement. "That means putting the student front and center with ergonomics and experience, and ensuring it's a plug-and-play technology that teachers feel confident to deploy and manage in the classroom."

Meanwhile, Xplorer was designed for K–12 spaces in response to user feedback. The new hardware can provide more sophisticated VR/AR experiences through a 4K Ultra-HD display, an upgraded LCD screen, and enhanced audio capabilities.

Both new headsets are powered by Snapdragon XR Platforms in partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., according to the news release.

"Our collaboration with Avantis Education is helping redefine what's possible in immersive learning," said Qualcomm's Senior Director of Product Management, Sahil Bansal. "With our Snapdragon processors at the heart of Xcelerate and Xplorer, the new headsets power richer VR/AR content than ever before. Together, we are bringing Avantis' most advanced solutions to market — helping to transform XR experiences and enhance learning for students worldwide."
