Office Suite for Linux Priced for Education

Linux, in general, functions as a low-cost UNIX workstation for Internet servers and other applications. Cooperatively developed, it is a POSIX-oriented, multi-user, multi-tasking operating system used worldwide in research and development organizations.

The popular Red Hat Linux is maintained as "freely distributable" software, available from many sites on the Internet. Now, educators and students can take advantage of both Red Hat Linux and Applixware Office Suite tools in the same package.

"Computer science, engineering and members of other technical disciplines who have always been in the forefront of Linux technologies now have the opportunity to use a word processor and other office tools on the same system that they do their research and programming on," says Bob Young, president, Red Hat Software, Inc.

The Applixware Office Suite includes a fully integrated graphical word processor, a spreadsheet, presentation graphics, electronic mail and HTML authoring components.

The educational price for Applixware for Red Hat Linux Student Edition 4.2 is $79.95 per user. The price includes three manuals and two CDs (Applixware for Red Hat Linux and Red Hat Linux 3.0.3). It is available through college bookstores and campus resellers, as well as retail software stores. Red Hat Software, Inc., Durham, NC, (800) 454-5502, www.redhat.com. MDW
