District Receives Award for Monitoring Systems

The Santa Maria-Bonita School District in Santa Maria, Calif., has received the California School Board Associationís highest honor -- a Golden Bell Award -- for its rigorous academic monitoring system that tracks each studentís learning progress through the year.

Spearheading this system is the TargetTeach Instructional Management Program, used by four schools within the district.

TargetTeach provides daily and weekly reviews of student work and standardized testing as well as a grade-by-grade level, subject-by-subject breakdown of what a student has mastered and what he or she still needs to learn.

According to the district, at least two schools -- Arellanes and George Washington Battles Elementary Schools -- have improved student test scores after using TargetTeach. Evans Newton, Inc., Scottsdale, AZ, (800) 443-0544, www.evansnewton.com.
