Students Rock the Stock Market

Launched on February 1, the free online Stocks that Rock! competition from MainXchange combines curriculum support, real-life experience, the thrill of managing a $100,000 "virtual" stock market portfolio, and the chance to win prizes. Found at www.mainxed.com, the competition is sponsored by Junior Achievement, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that America’s students understand the value of free enterprise, business and economics.

The stock game simulates all the basic activities involved in the investment process, in a highly motivating environment. It incorporates premier research tools such as Hoover’s Online, Reuters and CNN Interactive. It includes lesson plans, an outline of the skills and concepts developed, correlations to the national standards of NCTM, NCSS, NCEE and ISTE, along with other valuable information. The Stocks That Rock! competition runs from February 1 to March 31, 2000, with registration open from February 1 to March 1. MainXchange, Inc., Englewood, NJ, (201) 569-4343, www.mainxchange.com.
