Partnership Spawns TeleWeb Distance Learning Course

McGraw-Hill Higher Education and Intelecom, a producer of educational TV series for distance learning and classroom instruction, will offer On Common Ground: Framework for Democracy on PBS and cable stations beginning in January.

The 26-part series on American government will serve as a basis for a college-credit distance learning course, blending broadcast-quality video with Thomas Patterson’s text, We the People. The course features tools from Intelecom and the McGraw-Hill Online Learning Center, such as simulations, graphics, video and audio, Web links and multiple study tools. Also included is Political Science Meeting House, a site with state and local maps, Texas and California sites and an online Internet guide; as well as PowerWeb, an online reader updated weekly and accompanied by free access to the Northern Lights Search Engine.

The combination of the text, video and Web components provide a unique learning environment for the students. In concert with We the People, the TV series will combine essential historical events that serve as an important backdrop for government today with contemporary case studies that bring American government, politics and policy-making to life for the learner.
