Tutoring System Offers Online Science Help

Holt, Rinehart and Winston (HRW) plans to release Quantum Intelligent Tutors for high school chemistry, physical science and integrated science, as well as for middle school physical science through the Internet. The subscription service, which is scheduled to be available this fall, includes e-learning curricula and textbooks, providing a complete, integrated multimedia learning experience for teachers and students.

Quantum Intelligent Tutors from Quantum Simulations Inc., a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring technologies, are AI tutoring engines that power existing software, hardware and distance learning products, helping students from middle school through college solve science problems. The software uses an interactive dialogue tool that helps students understand why an answer is correct, measurably improving comprehension and test performance. The tutoring engines are funded by the U.S. Department of Education as well as the National Science Foundation, and are integrated with Web, wireless and CD-ROM learning products.
