Oracle Enhances x86 Clustered Systems for Virtualization and Private Cloud Deployments

Oracle last week introduced enhanced Sun Fire x86 clustered systems to bolster its line of enterprise-class blade and rackmount servers for highly virtualized and private cloud deployments.

Oracle's Sun x86 servers can be managed and supported as a single system using Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g, which includes integrated virtual and cloud environment management.

The systems come pre-installed with Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux, and Oracle VM to "provide a completely tested and supported virtualized environment for Oracle Software, including Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Applications." They are also certified to run Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise, Windows Server, and VMware.

Oracle touted the performance of the Sun x86 clustered systems, pointing out that they have set more than 30 world records to date in hardware benchmark tests, including five new world records that demonstrate "enterprise leadership and superior performance for Java applications."

Further information about Oracle's Sun x86 servers can be found here.
