Scholastic To Launch Teen Reading Initiative

This spring Scholastic will launch This is Teen, an initiative to connect teens to authors and create an online community of readers.

The program will include a Facebook page, location-based mobile gaming, and a national tour featuring authors Meg Cabot, Libba Bray, and Maggie Stiefvater, all of whom have books debuting this year.

The Facebook page will launch April 26 to coincide with the publication of Cabot's new book, Abandon, and will include exclusive author videos, blog entries, contests, trivia, and giveaways.

SCVNGR will provide the mobile gaming component of the initiative through location specific challenges using smart phones. Participants will be able to accumulate points and enter a sweepstakes by completing tasks such as:

  • Writing the best opening line for a story;
  • Taking pictures of certain titles at participating bookstores; and
  • Getting books signed at author events.

Six dates have been confirmed for the author tour, beginning May 24 and ending July 23.
