CoSN and SchoolDude Survey the Cloud

The value of cloud computing to schools is usually broken out as a cost/benefit analysis assessing risks to privacy and data versus cost savings and access to resources. What’s more difficult to quantify is how many school districts are (or are not) shifting to the cloud and leveraging student-owned technology to augment teaching by using cloud resources. The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) in collaboration with SchoolDude, a provider of on-demand software, recently announced the launch of their sixth annual K-12 IT benchmarking survey.

The goal of the “independent industry research” is to “uncover the unique challenges facing IT professionals working in U.S. public school districts today,” according to a press release from SchoolDude.

“Participating in this survey allows technology professionals in K-12 schools to be heard. Reviewing and using the data in this survey can make an impact across the school district, ultimately affecting students and teachers, as technology becomes more and more important to the teaching and learning environment,” said Lee Prevost, President and co-founder of SchoolDude. “This annual survey quantifies and identifies the concerns technology school leaders are commonly addressing.”

Topics included in the survey include how districts are dealing with technology issues such as cloud computing, BYOD, and social networking. Suggested participants are senior IT professionals working in K-12 public school districts. The 10-minute survey can be found at www.schooldude.com/ITsurvey.

The survey will remain open through Feb. 11, 2013, with the final report scheduled to be available during the CoSN Annual Conference, March 11-13, 2013.
