OverDrive Education Launches Collaborative E-Book Platform

To assist schools in implementing comprehensive digital content into classrooms, a company that offers a digital reading platform for K–12 has launched a new feature that enables schools to pool resources and cross-share collections of digital content with each other.

OverDrive Education now includes Shared Collections, a collaborative ebook platform that enables multiple schools to borrow digital content via a single website.

"For some schools, a shared collection is the most cost-effective way to introduce digital books to their teachers and students," said Herb Miller, director of education at OverDrive Education, in a news release. "Sharing resources among different schools or districts means that schools can offer greater accessibility to digital content. It's a cost-effective way to grow a K–12 digital content collection, at about $1 or less per student."

Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13), an education service agency, has begun using a shared collection for the 22 public school districts in Pennsylvania it oversees. "It's received a lot of positive attention, even at the superintendent level," said Ken Zimmerman, an instructional media and technology consultant for IU13, in a statement.

At FETC this week, OverDrive Education will lead “Success with eBooks: Strategies for implementing digital content into the classroom” from 12 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 26. The company will be exhibiting in booth 342.
