Learners Edge Debuts Cumulative Badges for Teacher PD

A provider of professional learning for teachers, Learners Edge, has added badges for each completed course.

The badges are based on the Open Badge standards and will be issued to users as they are awarded grades to be displayed or otherwise shared. In addition to individual course badges, the company will offer custom badges designed to reflect the user's expertise in specific fields by progressing through badge levels as they progress through additional content.

The four levels of badges will include Specialist, Expert, Master and Scholar and are designed so that one badge may represent years of learning with detailed information about the steps that went into it.

"Teachers are incredible," said Joe Cotter, co-founder and CEO of Learners Edge, in a prepared statement. "They’re experts in their field, and they harness that expertise to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences for their students. Teachers are dedicated to life-long learning, but only a handful of those years of learning are officially and publicly recognized. We want to change that."
