ACT Acquires K–12 Digital Content Provider Knovation

Knovation, a curator of K-12 open educational resources, has been acquired by ACT. Through the acquisition, ACT will gain access to the company's many digital resources for K-12 schools and districts. The terms of the agreement have not been released.

The assets acquired by ACT include:

  • Content Collection, online resources that can be access through Knovation applications or placed in a school's learning management system, learning object repository or other platform;
  • netTrekker, a search tool for locating online resources from the Content Collection;
  • icurio, a digital curriculum application that uses materials from the Content Collection; and
  • Curriculum alignment services.

"ACT is committed to improving learning in schools, and our acquisition of Knovation's outstanding solutions will help us accomplish this goal," said ACT CEO Marten Roorda, in a statement. "These solutions will strengthen our personalized learning offerings, helping teachers impact student learning directly in the classroom and beyond."

Knovation CEO and Co-founder Randy Wilhelm will be joining ACT, which is best known for its college entrance exam and test preparation programs. Wilhelm said that the change in ownership will enable ACT to better "tap into" the tie between learning content and assessment data "to personalize, accelerate and affect learning in a very positive way."
