Games and Classroom Discussion Coming to ST Math with New Chats Feature
MIND Research Institute is releasing an update to ST Math that includes new group activities centered around math games.
The new feature, called ST Math Chats, uses a “play-discuss-apply” model to involve the entire class in math learning. Students begin by playing a math game in ST Math, ten discuss the activity as a class, then apply what they learned to a problem. The games, or puzzles, begin as solo activities but eventually become group activities.
According to MIND: “ST Math Chats will be available for the 2019-2020 school year in open beta for no additional charge to current customers as well as those signing on during the year. The lessons are standards-aligned for grades three through five, and designed for easy implementation. Each lesson provides opportunities for whole-class, small-group, and partner discussion. Guided questions offer suggestions on how to spark conversation every step of the way”
The new ST Math Chats feature will launch in beta form in the fall for grades 3–5. MIND will be demonstrating the new features at the ISTE 2019 conference taking place next week in Philadelphia. The demonstrations will take place in the Cisco Active Learning Space, located in room 106AB. Registration for Monday and Tuesday demonstrations is available on ISTE’s site.
