North Carolina District Chooses Discovery Education for K–12 Science Instruction

North Carolina’s Hoke County Schools on Tuesday announced it is partnering with Discovery Education to modernize science instruction throughout the district, and teachers districtwide are now integrating Discovery Education into science instruction for all K–12 students, according to a news release.

“These exciting new resources are connecting students to their inner curiosity in new ways through engaging digital learning experiences investigating the mysteries of the universe,” Hoke County Schools said in the announcement.

The district’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan focuses on improving capacity to create modern and innovative learning environments, and HCS specifically sought to enhance science curriculum across all grades. Following an administrative review, HCS selected the Discovery Education platform and Discovery Education Science Techbooks for districtwide use.

The Discovery Education K–12 learning platform gives educators access to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, quiz- and activity-creation tools, and professional development resources. The content — all aligned to state and national standards for science instruction at every grade level — grows monthly in response to current events and evolving needs of teachers, the company said.

The Discovery Education Science Techbook series — already used in many classrooms across North America — drives student engagement with exclusive, interactive content. Virtual and hands-on investigations, STEM activities, and a variety of instructional supports enhance the delivery of impactful, blended instruction, in person or remotely. Digital teacher editions also provide flexible pacing options, embedded teacher notes, and Pathways for Learning to serve diverse learners.

The district’s partnership with Discovery Education includes access to the global Discovery Education Community for all teachers, HCS said; it connects educators across school systems and around the world through social media, virtual conferences, and in-person events, providing places for educator networking, idea sharing, and inspiration.
