Carnegie Learning Appoints Doug McCollum as New Chief Product Officer
Carnegie Learning, a provider of AI-assisted assessments for K–12 schools, has named Doug McCollum as its new Chief Product Officer, according to a news release.
Prior to joining Carnegie Learning, McCollum developed hundreds of innovative preK–12 instructional solutions and established himself as a proven leader at Pearson (now Savvas Learning) for more than three decades, followed by five years at Stride.
McCollum has developed core curriculum and supplemental programs for virtually all preK–12 subject areas and markets, including comprehensive preK, elementary, and secondary literacy, math, science, social studies, and world languages, as well as career and technology, reading intervention, and ELL.
As CPO, McCollum will spearhead the product strategy, roadmap, and development of Carnegie Learning’s portfolio. In addition to its flagship middle school and high school math solutions, which combines the consumable MATHbook and award-winning software MATHia, the Carnegie Learning suite of programs includes blended core and supplemental world language programs for Spanish, Spanish for Spanish speakers, French, German, Chinese, and Italian; the supplemental Fast ForWord language and literacy program; the Mirrors & Windows blended-core ELA solution; the supplemental blended Zorbit’s math program; and computer science program Zulama.

Neuhaus Education Center Promotes Allison Peck to Chief Academic Officer
Neuhaus Education Center, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting reading success for all, announced the promotion of Allison Peck to the newly created position of Chief Academic Officer, effective April 11, according to a news release.
Peck will now oversee professional development for teachers and leaders in public, charter, and private school systems across the country. In addition, shewill be responsible for the incubation and growth of a higher education alliance targeted to build partnerships with institutions of higher education.
Since January 2020, Peck has led the Teacher Professional Development team as the Vice President of Professional Development and has aided in transitioning Neuhaus into a hybrid model of providing professional development to teachers during the pandemic.
Peck says she was drawn to work at Neuhaus because of her own experience of going through the Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program, which she started when her oldest child was diagnosed with dyslexia in kindergarten. Her experience at Neuhaus includes apprenticing educators in the Neuhaus curriculum, coaching, and consulting with teachers, literacy coaches, and administrators from campuses and districts to help provide them with a Neuhaus implementation plan that will lead to reading success for all.
Peck holds a Ph.D. in Literacy from St. John’s University and has been a Certified Academic Language Therapist with Qualified Instructor since 2018. She also holds teacher certification in special education, general education, and English as a second language supplemental. She serves on the Board of Directors at the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council.

Leila Kamal Joins HDR as Director of Education for Architecture
Leila Kamal, AIA, LEED AP, has joined engineering and architecture firm HDR Inc. as director of education for the architecture practice. In this role, she will lead the education practice, assuring that HDR’s brand is elevated and maintained through university, college, and K–12 projects, according to a news release.
Based in Boston, Kamal will collaborate with colleagues around the globe to provide leadership through quality design, innovative planning, client service and thought leadership.
Over the course of two decades as a practicing architect, Kamal has been focused primarily on education clients and projects. Most recently, she served in leadership roles at HGA, DSK Architects + Planners, and EYP. She is regarded for her ability to get results: leading multiple successful research, design, and sustainability programs for multi-office firms, resulting in improved brand recognition and industry rankings as well as an increased number of business development opportunities and LEED-accredited projects.
Kamal earned her Bachelor of Science degree in architecture and Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan. She has been a guest speaker at Society for College and University Planning and Tradeline conferences, has presented research at the Association of American Colleges & Universities conference, and has been featured in numerous publications for her work and research, including the Harvard Business Review, Tradeline, Real Estate Bisnow Boston, and more.
Committed to giving back to the industry and her community, Kamal mentors students in the MIT School of Architecture and Planning through the MIT DesignX program, is on the President’s Council of the Boston Children’s Museum and is a member of the team that conceived and created the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit Program.

EDmarket Team Adds Tuley, Fisher to Support New Programs
The Education Market Association (EDmarket) has announced two new team members, hired to meet the needs of the organization as it expands its influence and member services.
Heather Tuley has joined the staff in the newly created position of Program & Content Manager, according to a news release. Her role is key to the successful implementation of EDmarket’s membership programs and thought leadership within the educational products space.
In addition to her 13 years as a classroom teacher, Tuley brings extensive experience working with education associations, most recently as Certification Manager at the Texas Association of School Business Officials. She holds a master’s degree in Education Leadership from Texas State University and bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Texas A&M University.
EDmarket also announced that Kelly Fisher has been hired as Director of Marketing, charged with creating integrated marketing plans that support the growth of the association and its programs, events, and membership outreach efforts.
Fisher spent the last 13 years with Diversified Spaces, most recently as their Marketing & Brand Manager. She has extensive experience as a creative and art director for companies of all sizes both on a freelance and corporate basis. Fisher holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin.

Noted Literacy Educator Antonio A. Fierro Joins Tools 4 Reading
Antonio A. Fierro, who has contributed to several literacy curricula focusing on instruction for the English learner, has joined Tools 4 Reading as the company’s first-ever Chief Academic Advisor, according to a news release. A past Texas Teacher of the Year winner, Fierro brings more than 25 years of experience in the field of education to his new role at Tools 4 Reading, which helps educators gain the expertise to implement effective classroom reading instruction.
Fierro previously collaborated with Tools 4 Reading Founder and President Mary Dahlgren, co-authoring Kid Lips, a curriculum that teaches the phonetics of English to young children.
Fierro has a personal interest in advancing the knowledge base and understanding of dyslexia and other reading disabilities because his son, currently attending his second year of college, has dyslexia, Tools 4 Reading said in a news release.
