HORIZON SOFTWARE has announced Healthy Vending, a “smart” machinefor schools that dispenses healthful snacks and meals. In conjunction withHorizon’s MealpayPlus, which collects lunch money online,Healthy Vending identifies and tracks all of a student’sschool cafeteria and vending purchases, and allowsparents to log on to their children’s accounts to viewthat information. Price: $4,000 to $7,000 each,depending on the model. To offset the cost, schoolscan add the software to existing vending machinesor trade in old machines toward the cost of newones.
