Report: Sweeping Education Reform Needed To Bolster American Competitiveness

A revamped 21st century education system is central to American economic competitiveness. Domestic and international economies have shifted. New skills are needed for the workforce. And there are significant achievement gaps to be overcome in order for the United States to be able to compete with the rest of the world. This according to a new report released today that calls on federal, state, and local policymakers to make a concerted effort to refocus K-12 education on 21st century skills.

Sun Releases Cross-platform Desktop Virtualization Software

Sun Microsystems this week rolled out version 2.0 of its xVM VirtualBox, a cross-platform, open source desktop virtualization suite that supports hosts ranging from Mac OS X and Windows to Solaris and 18 varieties of Linux. According to Sun, the software in all versions has surpassed 6.5 million downloads worldwide, averaging about 15,000 per day.

Math Blaster To Debut on DS Platform

Educational software developer Knowledge Adventure recently announced that it will be launching its Math Blaster software on the Nintendo DS platform in partnership with Majesco Entertainment Co. This will be the first title Knowledge Adventure will release for DS, but not the last, according to the company.

Teachers Domain Expands Content for Educators, Adds New Editions

Teachers Domain, a free online resource for educators, has announced expanded content in science, math, art, social studies, and language arts. The online library is also launching two new editions: Teachers' Domain College Edition, designed for higher education, and VITAL New York on Teachers' Domain, providing resources for New York teachers that are aligned with the state's core curriculum.

Utility storage provider 3PAR has announced the release of the 3PAR InServ T400 and T800 Storage Servers. The new hardware is built on the company's third-generation InSpire architecture, featuring the 3PAR Gen3 ASIC with integrated fat-to-thin processing.
