Dallas County Schools Moves Fleet Management to SaaS Model

Dallas County Schools (DCS), an intermediate educational agency serving Dallas County's 14 independent school districts, has signed a software-as-a-service (SaaS) contract to manage its fleet of school buses.

DCS reported it had been using a custom inventory management and work order system that it developed in house, but the system no longer met the needs of the organization, so DCS decided to replace its existing system with a comprehensive fleet management software solution. DCS sought a solution that would also integrate with its existing financial management systems and operations systems for accounting, route management, and telematics. Following a competitive bid process, DCS selected FleetFocus from AssetWorks.

DCS staff will be able to access the browser-based FleetFocus from any computer with an Internet connection. FleetFocus offers complete vehicle equipment lifecycle management, work order functionality, shop scheduling, warranty and claims tracking, preventative maintenance scheduling, purchasing and parts inventory management, technician certification and training management, license and permit management, and accident repair tracking with subrogation claims management. Users will also be able to access a dashboard that illustrates key performance indicators in graphical format and use the ad-hoc query tool to report on any data in the database.

Other educational institutions using FleetFocus include Wichita Public Schools and a number of universities, including Oregon State University, Radford University, University of Alabama, UC Davis, University of Hawaii, and University of Michigan.

Dallas County Schools operates the fift- largest school bus fleet in the United States. The fleet consists of more than 1,700 buses, which transport approximately 64,000 students daily, as well as a number of support vehicles. Dallas County Schools has 12 service centers and more than 1,800 employees.
