CD-ROM Displays Great Buildings

The Great Buildings Collection brings over 700 of the world's greatest buildings onto the computer screen -- through color pictures, architectural plans, drawings, videos and 3D models. The CD includes famous buildings -- such as Rockefeller Center, the Roman Coliseum and the Guggenheim Museum -- as well as less recognizable houses, bridges, airports, libraries and churches. Some of the architects represented are Wright, Palladio, Michelangelo, Aalto and Pei. One can read concise biographies on these architects, or search for buildings by name, architect, location date or materials. Plus, sun studies show how light and shadows affect buildings. The Great Buildings Collection was created by Kevin Matthews, director of the University of Oregon's Design Integration Laboratory, in cooperation with Apple Computer and Van Nostrand Reinhold.
