ETS Technologies, Inc. and Question Mark Corp. have entered into a cooperation to provide Criterion OnlineWriting Evaluation, a Web-based service that allows students to get instantfeedback on writing samples they submit. The Criterion service is designed tosupplement writing instruction by giving learners the opportunity to practicewriting and receive reliable feedback based on widely accepted standards.Visitors to the ETS Web site can write essays on topics that are linked toestablished standards, and receive a score with descriptive information withinabout 30 seconds. Each essay is ranked on anumeric scale, with explanatory remarks about the possible strengths andweaknesses of the work. For details, visit www.ets.org/criterion.
