3Com Offers New Wireless LAN, Internet Tools
3Com Corp. is offering new wireless LAN (WLAN) products and new enhancements for its SuperStack 3 Webcache product family. The new WLAN products are the Access Point 8000 for larger networks, and the Access Point 2000 for simple and affordable installation.
The Access Point 8000 is fully compatible with 3Com's existing AirConnect 11 Mbps WLAN product and all other 3Com WLAN products. Customers can easily migrate as new access points are required in their wireless network. The Access Point 2000 can be set up in 60 seconds by plugging it into a power source and the wired LAN.
The Access Point 8000 offers a full-featured security system for the enterprise network, with support for 40-bit WEP, 128-bit shared key encryption, IEEE 802.1x, RADIUS authentication and Extensible Authentication Protocols. In addition to supporting Windows XP, 3Com's unique 802.1x agent extends RADIUS/802.1x capabilities to legacy Windows OS.
For organizations that support a large user base without a RADIUS server, 3Com's Access Point 8000 offers Dynamic Security Link when deployed with the 3Com 11 Mbps WLAN PC Card with XJACK antenna. This added security feature gives each user a unique key and changes the key with every session, making it a resilient security system. Each Access Point 8000 can support up to 1,000 user names and passwords.
The new version 2.0 software for the 3Com SuperStack 3 Webcache product family increases performance and scalability of the 3Com caching system, reducing up to 50 percent of the WAN Web traffic and associated costs, while speeding Web content delivery. SuperStack 3 Webcache products are designed for school environments with 30 or more users and moderate-to-high Web access or dependence on Web-based applications. Its fault-tolerant design improves system reliability and cache engine bypass, and ensures network resilience under extreme load conditions. 3Com Corp., Santa Clara, CA, (408) 326-5000, www.3com.com.
