Web-Based SIS Looks To 'Go Green' with New Communications Features

InformationNow, a Web-based student information system from K-12 technology developer STI, is adding a new suite of features called "Go Green." The additions, available at no extra charge to current users, are designed to facilitate online communications with parents to help reduce paper waste. The updated features made their debut at last week's FETC 2010 conference in Florida.

InformationNow is an online SIS that offers granular data analysis and reporting capabilities, with access customizable down to the individual user level. It also includes other administrative and marketing capablities, ranging from lunch program management and health services to tuition billing and donor development.

With the new Go Green features, reporting and communications are extended to parents and guardians, with paperless report cards and other information supplied through a variety of electronic media.

According to the company, "Using Go Green, parents and guardians can get involved in the efforts of their school and local community to reduce their carbon footprints and demonstrate social responsibility to their children. They can elect to receive student report cards, progress reports, school notices, and other communications through the online portal in InformationNow. E-mail alerts notify 'Green' parents when new documents are ready to be viewed online. Parents and students can also request online courses via the Web portal rather than filling out paper forms."

STI said that additional Go Green features will make their way to InformationNow beginning in the spring, including the option to receive automatic alerts via RSS.
