Read&Write 4 Comes to Mac OS X

Texthelp has released Read&Write 4 Gold for Mac, the latest version of Read&Write software intended to help struggling students. The software was previously available only for Windows systems. The new release was announced at the ISTE 2010 conference in Denver, CO.

Read&Write displays as a floating toolbar within applications like Microsoft Word, Apple Safari, and Adobe Reader. It offers:

  • Text to speech with dual color highlighting;
  • A talking built-in and online dictionary;
  • Text scanning and conversion to PDF or sound file formats;
  • Text translation into languages other than English;
  • Word prediction based on user writing style;
  • Spelling and homophone helpers;
  • Study guide creation; and
  • Fact-finder and fact-mapper for construction of writing outlines.

New features in Read&Write 4 Gold include a screenshot reader, allowing normally inaccessible user-selected text to be read aloud with highlighting or exported into Microsoft Word; full screen or mouse-directed color masking to improve text readability; video walkthroughs; new licensing options; and a mobile version of the software.

Read&Write 4 Gold for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. The mobile version runs from a USB flash drive and does not require installation. Pricing starts at $645 with a $295 single user option for schools with a site license, and unlimited site licenses and volume discounts are available by contacting the company.
