MetaMetrics Adds New Math Activities to Resource Bank

Educators can now access a new free resource designed to help measure student comprehension and mastery of mathematical concepts.

MetaMetrics, provider of The Quantile Framework for Mathematics, has added the Illustrative Mathematics tasks to its database of free resources, according to a statement from the company. Quantile is designed to evaluate instructional efficacy by evaluating a student's ability to solve mathematical problems. Illustrative Mathematics, a project developed by a team at the University of Arizona, aims to "produce mathematical tasks and other content that illustrate the type of experiences students should have when the Standards are faithfully implemented."

The resources in MetaMetric's database are marked with a Quantile measure that evaluates the difficulty of the mathematical activity as well as the student's mastery of the skill or concept. Teachers can use the data from these activities to see which concepts a student is ready to learn and which skills need additional work or assistance.

Teachers can access Illustrative Mathematics and other activities using the "Quantile Teacher Assistant" and "Math Skills Database" links at the Quantiles Web site.
