Distance Learning Summit Tackles Challenges of Remote Instruction in the Time of Pandemic

THE Journal is launching a new virtual event for education professionals, including information technology leaders, administrators, instructional technologists and educators themselves. The event is free to attend.

Two sessions are planned for the first THE Journal Distance Learning Summit.

Session 1: Supporting Teachers in a Time of Pandemic

The entire teaching force in the United States suddenly found itself working from home this spring. Many were not — and still are not — prepared to make the adjustment. But school appears to be out for the long haul, not just for this semester but beyond, into the summer and fall in some cases. Teachers must adapt now. We focus on the tools, technologies, resources and training teachers need now to continue delivering instruction to the nation’s 56 million students.

Session 2: How to Avoid the Pitfalls of Remote Learning

Distance learning and e-learning aren’t about recreating what goes on inside the physical classroom. This session, presented by an expert in blended and online learning, will reveal the pitfalls educators and institutions need to avoid; spotlight best practices in distance learning; and provide discussion for meeting the needs of disadvantaged students.

The panels will be moderated by THE Journal Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Director David Nagel.

The first THE Journal Distance Learning Summit will be held online May 12. Free registration is open now. Visit thejournal.com/dls for more information.
