Frontline Education Being Sold to Roper Technologies

K–12 administrative software provider Frontline Education is being sold.

Frontline’s parent company, software investment firm Thoma Bravo, today announced an agreement to sell Frontline Education to Roper Technologies in an all-cash transaction valued at $3.725 billion, according to a news release.

The sale is expected to be finalized in the fourth quarter, subject to regulatory approvals, Thoma Bravo said.

Roper Technologies, a Fortune 500 company, counts nearly 50 technology brands among its portfolio, including Logitech. The publicly traded firm, headquartered in Sarasota, Fla., reported $5.7 billion in revenue and $1.1 billion in net profits last year.

Frontline Education’s cloud-based software solutions for K–12 personnel management, student health and special education programs, data analytics, and business operations serve over 12,000 education organizations across the United States, according to its website.

The sale would conclude Frontline Education’s five-year partnership with Thoma Bravo, which saw the investment firm’s “deep sector expertise” lead Frontline to grow its profits and expand its footprint in the K–12 education technology sector, Thoma Bravo said.

“Since Thoma Bravo's acquisition of Frontline in 2017, the company has completed six highly strategic acquisitions, significantly grew its revenue, expanded its market leading product portfolio from 16 to 30 products and increased headcount by over 70% – all while bringing increased value to school districts across the U.S.,” said the company in its announcement.

Frontline Education CEO Mark Gruzin said that regardless of a change in ownership, Frontline would “stay true to our culture and mission of partnering with K–12 schools in their pursuit of excellence."
