Spanish Radio Program Focuses on Astronomy

A new Spanish-language radio program can help science teachers convey difficult concepts in astronomy, physics, space technology and related fields to Hispanic students not proficient in English. The daily two-minute program, called Universo, currently airs on roughly 40 radio stations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Universo provides skywatching information, astronomical research results and historical background, with particular emphasis on the contributions of Hispanics. Science teachers can incorporate the program into daily lessons through monthly compact discs, which may be freely duplicated onto audiocassettes for use in school libraries.
