Link to News Resources

CNN Interactive has launched CNNfyi.com, a news and information site designed specifically for middle and high school students. The site includes educator-designed classroom and homework materials as well as in-depth resources from leading education companies. A daily news page links to featured areas for teachers and students, with additional links to supplemental content and learning tools. CNNfyi.com will also include materials from CNN’s existing educational programs, such as CNN Newsroom and CNN Student Bureau. The teacher’s area offers classroom activities relating to the day’s top news stories and curriculum-specific lesson plans. Students visiting the site will find news stories, youth-specific topics and a homework help center with research tools.

Also from CNN Interactive, Your Choice. Your Voice. is a Web-based educational program designed to help teach students about the electoral process. Six weekly online lesson plans help teachers integrate the program into classroom discussions, raising issues and topics such as the right to vote, political issues, the media and debates, polls, and the electoral procedure. Also available online are a glossary of terms, links to political Web sites, and tools for taking weekly tests online and conducting mock elections. An online contest gives classrooms the chance to win audiovisual equipment. CNN, Atlanta, GA, (800) 344-6219, www.cnnfyi.com.
