Online Music School Receives Accreditation

Eastern Conservatory of Music, a distance learning music school, recently received its accreditation from the International Accreditation and Recognition Council. The conservatory offers both credit and noncredit courses in areas such as music history and performance, as well as in special areas such as ethnomusicology and African-American music. Students may enroll in one course at a time or pursue a degree in cooperation with the California-based University for Professional Studies.

The conservatory says its setup is similar to a traditional school. Its technology arm, the Los Angeles-based Emusic Institute, provides the technology to teach interactive music lessons and classes online. The Lecture Hall system, an online Web application, also allows each class to have its own portal with assignment bulletins and a homework drop-off bin.
