Ohio SchoolNet to Highlight Best Practices and Accountability

The Ohio SchoolNet State Technology Conference 2003, to be held Feb. 3-5 at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, will offer educators the opportunity to network with peers; share best practices and strategies for leadership, integration and implementation; and review the latest technology trends and emerging technologies. This year’s themes will focus on the NCLB Act as well as Ohio’s bicentennial celebration. The conference’s featured speaker is Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan, president and CEO of COSI Columbus, who was the first American woman to walk in space.

The Ohio SchoolNet Conference will offer hundreds of concurrent sessions, featured speakers, workshops and vendor exhibits. Four technology integrationists from Ohio schools will collaborate with teachers to deliver workshops at K-3, 4-6, 7-8 and 9-12 levels on each day of the conference. These workshops include video of students and teachers in action, handouts and support materials.

Ohio’s Ed Tech Agencies will also facilitate hands-on workshops that offer in-depth detail relating to integration and other technical topics. The sessions will be organized in full- and half-day workshops. The SchoolNet conference strands include Leadership, Integration, Professional Development, Assistive Technologies and Distance Learning.

A new format for this year’s conference is the “Technology Coordinator’s Workbench,” which features focused, yet open, discussion sessions with experts in specific technologies from Ohio districts. This area is vendor-free, allowing for frank conversation on topics such as “Diagnostic Software,” “Network Management” and “File and Print Sharing Solutions.” In addition, the Ohio SchoolNet Conference will offer a “first-timers” orientation session.
