Unlocking the Census With GIS is an easy-to-navigate volume that will help professionals and students make better use of census data by taking advantage of geographic information system (GIS) technology. The book includes an introduction to the Census of Population and Housing, a look at the economic census and other economic data sources, and guidelines on using databases to manage and link census data. It also includes hypothetical examples that illustrate important principles or techniques related to working with census data, as well as tools that give readers a more complete understanding of the census and how valuable it can be to those using GIS software tools. Filled with tables, diagrams, maps and fact-filled sidebars, the book also provides a detailed tutorial on using American FactFinder, the Census Bureau’s main Web-based data access tool.
