Clarkston Schools Deploys iTrust To Secure Internet Usage

Clarkston Community Schools has selected DeepNines iTrust, a multi-layer security defense system that guards against unauthorized Internet usage while prioritizing network traffic.

In addition to DeepNines, the school district has also implemented solutions from Websense and Barracuda to protect and apply policy across its network. Clarkston added DeepNines to prevent web proxies and other unauthorized Internet usage, while providing granular policy control and bandwidth management.

"We were impressed with the way iTrust could help us block inappropriate content that might otherwise find ways around our current solution," said Matt McCarty, executive director of technology. "We pride ourselves on putting our students first and quickly decided to deploy iTrust to protect our most critical assets at Clarkston--the children."

iTrust provides visibility of Internet traffic. School districts can use this information to make decisions about how to manage content and access on the network. The software lets IT administrators limit or block students' access to social networking sites, web proxies, peer-to-peer, instant messaging and online gaming. It also prioritizes bandwidth for specific types of traffic.

The district serves 8,500 students and faculty in the eastern Michigan town of Clarkston.
