Laptop Thefts Strike PA High School

A high school in Allentown, PA has lost 30 laptop computers and two LCD projectors to thieves, according to The Morning Call, an Allentown newspaper.

The equipment, valued at $34,450, was stolen over the Memorial Day weekend from Allen High School. According to the report, the computers were stored in a locked charging cart secured with a combination lock. The case was bent, as if pried open.

The systems were about six months old and had been purchased with a grant from Classrooms for the Future, a state program to put technology into high schools.

According to reporter Manuel Gamiz Jr., four teenagers were charged with stealing 40 laptops at another high school in the region in April.

The district has filed an insurance claim.
