Education Decisions: Where's the Evidence and Research Base?

Remember the old Monty Hall program Let's Make a Deal? In that game show, you could win the prize behind one of three doors. If you started by choosing door 1, should you have changed your mind and selected door 2, if Monty showed you what's behind door 3? What has this to do with research? Well ... people are convinced what they know is the right thing and forge ahead with decisions based on their rationalizations, no matter what research indicates.

Sakai 2.5.2 Gets Performance Boost; New Modules Released

The Sakai Foundation has released the Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment 2.5.2, the first maintenance update to the open-source learning management system since the 2.5 release in March. The new version includes performance enhancements, as well as a number of bug fixes and other enhancements.

Vex Debuts 2008-2009 Robotics Competition for Middle, High Schools

Innovation First is launching a new Vex Robotics game for high schools and middle schools for the 2008-2009 school year. Dubbed "Elevation," the new competition tests students' robot-building skills and pits them in team competitions in which participants attempt to place the most objects inside a goal.

Ocean Springs District Adopts Hosted Document Management

Ocean Springs School District in Mississippi is moving its data center to a hosted environment. The district recently announced that it's adopted the ImageNow hosted enterprise document management system from Perceptive Software in an effort to bolster its disaster recovery plan.
