Knox County Schools Get Boost in Security Funding Following School Shooting Death

A month and a day after a high school shooting left a student dead, county commissioners in Knox County, TN have approved $195,000 for additional security mechanisms at Knox County Schools, the district where the shooting took place.

According to coverage on Knowxinews.com, the money would include $75,000 for three additional security officers, one for Central High School, where the killing occurred, another for a middle school, and a third as needed in the district. It would provide $50,400 for additional video cameras at Central High and two other schools, $10,000 for two walk-through metal detectors that could be moved around the district, $4,375 for 35 hand-held detectors, and $25,000 to hire a consultant to review the district's security protocols.

Additional funds would be applied to professional development and cover overtime involved with expanding a home visit program for at-risk kids, reported volunteertv.com, a site run by a news station in Knoxville.
