Texas District Deploys 802.11n Wireless

Tomball Independent School District in Texas has is deploying a new 802.11n wireless network across 12 facilities. Tomball chose Aruba Networks' wireless LAN hardware for the implementation. It's also deploying Aruba's identity-based security systems across its facilities.

The deployment will cover elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools across the district, covering about 83 square miles. The deployment is part of a plan to integrate all areas of the curriculum with technology, according to information released by the district.

"Our district is relatively small compared to the other districts in the area and with our smaller IT staff, it was imperative to find a wireless solution that was easy to manage," said Tom Brawley, director of technology for Tomball ISD, in a statement released Tuesday. "Accordingly, Tomball ISD looked for a solution that would meet our technical requirements and support the large number of wireless devices at our campuses, and Aruba fit that bill perfectly. A growing number of school districts around the Houston area have selected Aruba because it is easy to set up, and can be remotely diagnosed, centrally managed, and upgraded over the network without requiring a truck roll. Tomball ISD is looking forward to watching our students use the newly installed 802.11n solution to tap into the media-rich content on the Internet."

Tomball ISD serves about 9,700 students and employs 1,300 faculty and staff.
