Virginia District Streamlines Student Information System

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has signed an agreement with Edupoint Educational Systems to implement the company's GENESIS student information system (SIS). The new platform will replace the district's current implementation of SASI.

According to the announcement, the Edupoint platform is intended to help FCPS streamline a range of information-intensive operations and comes after the successful deployment of the company's Special Education product, GENESEA. Features of the GENESIS system include a central architecture, Web-based access, as well as set of integrated tools aimed at reducing the need for third-part software.

"We feel their technology base is strong and flexible, which is important since we have more than 165,000 students in more than 200 schools," said Ted Davis, director of information technology, FCPS, in a prepared statement. "From a functional perspective, Edupoint's product had many of the capabilities we were looking for and they were committed to providing the capabilities that were missing."

FCPS is planning a phased implementation of the system, with a pilot for elementary schools set to begin in January 2010. A middle and high school pilot will be rolled out during the summer of 2010, with a full implementation slated for the start of the 2010-2011 school year.
