Virginia Districts Adopt Web-based Student Information System

Three districts in Virginia are moving to a Web-based student information system to help streamline administrative processes and gain real-time access to data.
The districts--Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Floyd County Schools, and Halifax County Public Schools--have selected Infinite Campus as their district-wide student information system.
Infinite Campus manages student data through a centralized database that provides real-time information to teachers, administrators, and counselors. It allows parents and students to access assignments, grades, and attendance data through a Web interface. And it provides data warehousing, reporting, and data management for a range of K-12 information, including assessments, curricula, and special education.
Last July the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (a program designed to help consolidate Virginia's IT infrastructure) have signed on with Infinite Campus to allow districts in the state to purchase the Infinite Campus student information system (SIS) without the need for an RFP.
"We had six different programs that ran together. We wanted a system that had all these in one package," said Timothy Ampy, director of technology for Dinwiddie CPS. "We considered everything that Infinite Campus brings to the table, not just price. Our committee agreed Infinite Campus was the best system to meet our needs."
